That is really the main part of it. Smith is an attorney with over 25 years of immigration experience with complex immigration issues and successful filings. The federal Secretary of Homeland Security is responsible for administering the new requirements and is authorized to determine the official purposes for which the prohibition applies, but the law specifically mentions accessing federal facilities, boarding federally regulated commercial airlines, and entering nuclear power plants.

- While non-compliant licenses or IDs won't be accepted, people can present other federally compliant documents, such as a passport, passport card, or military ID for taking flights and other federal uses.

If states or individuals choose not to make citizenship a requirement for the ID, they can opt for another form of ID. However, ID does not meet federal requirements and is not valid when a federal ID is required. You always have the option of a passport card or a passport. What it sounds like Cali is doing, is herding citizens and non-citizens toward an ID that does not indicate US citizenship. They can now claim harassment and discrimination when people are asked about US citizenship when entering secure federal facilities or when federally recognized ID is required. I know a bunch of people that are carrying their passport with them because they live in PA, which does not offer a real-ID compliant license. Only the smart ones got the passport card. They set up college departments solely dedicated to teaching illegals how to evade the law then tell citizens to go fuck themselves if they can't make their case. Getting a new one issued is pretty easy and it's not real hard to prove that you're a US citizen. With all the illegals pouring across the border, I would think people would be more receptive to proof of citizenship instead of fighting it. View Quote They sound pretty stupid to me carrying around unnecessary documentation. The smart ones didn't waste their money on passport cards. PA has an extension until October 10, 2018, and will most likely get an additional extension until 2019 when they will issue real ID compliant drivers licenses. If you have a PA drivers license, there is no need to carry around a passport, or waste money on a passport card. Originally Posted By killswitch: It's been that way for a while. I heard if your mother laminated yours in 1981 they hold up pretty well. I went in to get one the other day. When I finally got to the counter and gave them my papers, she said this is not you. I had my middle name on one of the papers and not the other and that tripped her up..... Originally Posted By ShooterPatriot: They sound pretty stupid to me carrying around unnecessary documentation. In order to receive the new REAL Id you would have had to renew in person at the DMV along with all original documentation ssn, birth certificate, etc.. When was the last time you entered the US from Mexico without a passport or passport card? When was the last time that you tried to enter a secure US federal facility without Real ID, passport, passport card, or other federally compliant ID? That's what the NY enhanced license was designed for. What happens at other state's borders I have no idea. LOL - all righty then! Real ID is not required until 2020 in states that are implementing it. Other states that have not made enough progress have shorter extensions to Oct 10, 2018 which I stated in my original post. Every state and possession is either compliant, or has received an extension except American Samoa. No gold star - no official citizenship. You need your birth certificate and 3 utility bills with your physical address, a note from your mom, and some other stuff to get one. Don't let it expire, or you have to do all of it over again. I gotta do mine soon, our birthdays are like, right next to each other IIRC. So, happy birthday a couple weeks early. It'd be really cool if you got a Green Card, though. It looks exactly like my previous license WHICH I STILL HAVE, but it's thinner. I have the DMV, bag of assholes.
